(a). The remuneration of the Crown Solicitor to
be £1,300 payable in dollars at the Civil Service Rate of
Exchange (see Rule 39, Civil Service List). This remunera-
-tion to include all the Crown Solicitor's Staff both
technical and clerical and all expenses incidental to his
office.
(b). Such salary to cover all the duties hitherto
performed by the Crown Solicitor except as follows:-
(1). The Crown Solicitor to be relieved of the
preparation of Agreements relating to Crow
Lands.
(2). The Crown Solicitor to be paid in accordance
with the ordinary professional scale for
Civil Litigation (other than that in connect -ion with the collection of Revenue) under-
-taken by the Government but not for Police
Court Work, Arbitration, or Resumptions.
(3). The Crown Solicitor and his firm to be pro-
-vided with free offices in the Law Courts
not exceeding in size the offices at present
occupied by him:
and I submit these proposals for your consideration and
approval. I would add that on the score of efficiency I do
not think any arrangement would be more satisfactory than
the continuance of the engagement of the firm of Dennys and
Bowley. Mr. Bowley is an able and gealous Officer and his
